The Effects Of Blackbeard s Early Life - 1335 Words
Little is known about Blackbeardââ¬â¢s early life, but his real name was thought to be Edward Teach. There are other variations of his name such as; Thach, Theach, and Thatch although Teach is the most common. Teach was British and he was born before 1690 (Kirkpatrick). There is also little to no information about Teachââ¬â¢s family, one clue however, is that Teach was able to read and write, skills more likely found in people of wealth (Hamilton). During the war many men purchased their own ships and began the life as a privateer attacking enemy ships. Just as many young men Teach joined a British privateer that was based in Jamaica. Their mission was to attack the ships of the enemy (Kirkpatrick). Queen Anne of Britain gave Teachââ¬â¢s privateer permission to plunder French and Spanish ships during the war and to keep the stolen goods (Kirkpatrick). By the end of the was Teach had become and experienced sea robber. After the war had ended Teach did not plan to stop plunder ing ships so he joined a fierce group of Caribbean pirates (Kirkpatrick). And so started the beginning of his life as a pirate. In 1716 Teach joined the crew of Benjamin Hornigold (Minster). Hornigold was a highly feared pirate at the time and he saw great potential in Teach (Minster). On Hornigoldââ¬â¢s ship Teach sailed from the pirate colony in the west indies to the American mainland, where they captured a number of ships (Blackbeard).
